Mayo Youth Tour Attracts Top International Teams
Belgium leads the overseas challenge in next month’s Mayo Youth Tour, with the Lotto-Bodysol-Cycling Team from West Flanders sending a four-man team of under 16s that includes Dylan Jaspers, a stage winner in last year’s Kerry Youth Tour.
The Isle of Man will have the biggest visiting contingent in this year’s race, with up to 15 Manx riders taking part. The Island has a tradition of breeding champions, from Commonwealth gold medallist Peter Buckley to UK pro’ champion Steve Joughin and current superstar Mark Cavendish.
Cycling Scotland is also sending a team, with full details to be announced shortly.
The Mayo Youth Tour is a new three-day event on the calendar and takes place in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo from August 1 to 3.
Race director Martin McNally is delighted with the overseas response so far and is hoping for strong support from Ireland. He reminds all potential entrants that the closing date for entries is Friday, July 17. The entry fee will be doubled for late entries.
Entry forms and other race details can be downloaded from the website: www.irishcycling.com click on 'Calendar' for Aug. 1.
