Ras Mhaigheo 2010

The Burke Waste Rás Mhaigheo promoted by Covey Wheelers Westport Cycling Club was held Today in Westport with a strong field of over 70 riders taking part.

With three groups on the road the scratch group had to work very hard to go through the field and reel in all the groups, this they done with great style

Going through the last group after 32k, the field was very split and only the front break away group and the main bunch were the only groups together.

As the race came to the half way stage Colm Quinn Cuchulainn C.C went away getting a small gap on the chasing group which included Charles Prendergast Black Rose Cycling, Michael Brady Covey Wheelers Westport C.C, Padraic Marrey Western Lakes, Rory Geraghty Galway Bay C.C, Anthony Testa Westcoast Wheelers, Gerhard Hack Western lakes C.C Chris Coyle Castlebar C.C as this lead group came past Ashleagh, Charles Prendergast Black Rose Cycling broke from the

group and was soon setting on the wheel of Colm Quinn and the increased the gap as they came near Westport and in the sprint to the line Charles Prendergast had the edge on Colm Quinn and won by a bike length.
