Open Day @ Ballinrobe BMX Track

Western Lakes C.C held an open day of BMX racing at the cycling centre on the Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe Co.Mayo on Sat 25th Oct in very poor weather conditions, this did not take away from the enjoyment of this occasion for the many cyclists that travelled from far and near to take part.

Senior cyclists showed the way on the jumps and some of the younger cyclists were very capable also and put in great performances.

Those to shine in the seniors were Eamon Wyer 20 inch Ireland, Conor O’Brien Orwell Wheelers, Dundrum, Fran Kearns Westcoast Wheelers Galway, and young Gavin Carroll, Flow Racing at only 16 years of age he performed some unreal jumps whilst also setting the fastest lap of 56seconds.

In the youth section 7 year old Michael Sheridan, Covey Wheelers Westport C.C had a great day with a few tumbles but never gave up.

Under 10 Fintan Bartley Navan Rd Club put in great performances in all the competitions.

In the under 12 section Matthew O’Donnell Covey Wheelers Westport C.C

Luke Farrell Navan Rd Club, Lydia Sheridan Covey Wheelers Westport C.C, Andrea Connolly, Covey Wheelers Westport C.C all done well. Others who performed well were Brendan Mercer Western Lakes,

Frank Finnerty Western Lakes, Jonathan Smith Navan road club, Shane Mulchrone Covey Wheelers Westport C.C all under 14.

Gavin Burke Innishfree, Francis Sheridan, Covey Wheelers Westport C.C, Aaron Chambers Covey Wheelers Westport C.C, Robert Staunton Covey Wheelers Westport C.C all under 16 and Juniors.

William Sheridan Covey Wheelers Westport C.C, and Connor Bartley Navan Road club.

The day showed that there is a great hunger for this type of competition

And Western Lakes will continue to promote the BMX league throughout this year and into the New Year.
