Why not test your physical and physiological strengths and prepare yourself for Ireland's ultimate cycle challenge. The route runs from Ireland's most southerly point at Mizen Head, County Cork to the country's most northerly point at Malin Head , Co. Donegal. The distance is approximately 600km and the goal for this challenge is to complete the cycle in under 24 hours and consequently will involve cycling through the night.
This challenge will more than likely take place at the end of May or beginning of June 2012. The official launch will take place early in the New Year and will involve two cycles, one on the Saturday which will be open to all cyclists and the second on the Sunday which will be restricted to those intending to participate in the Mizen to Malin Challenge. We hope to have some well known faces join us on the two days.
In the meantime we have scheduled a pre training run (weather permitting) for Sunday December 18th departing from Corrib Oil, Swinford at 9.30am. This will be a fairly leisurely spin measuring approximately 100k and perhaps a good yard stick to use in deciding whether or not you want to proceed further with the training for the Mizen to Malin Challenge.
At this point in time we are unable to give a costing for this event but will will endeavour to keep costs to a minimum. Notwithstanding this we do intend to raise some money for a much deserving charity but nonetheless its up to each rider to assess and decide for themselves if they want to be part of this.
As stated, the official launch will be held early in the new year. It is important that anyone interested in getting involved is present for launch. Full details relating to dates, times, etc. will be updated on www.swinfordtrisports . There is a specific section of this site allocated to Cycle news.
Unfortunately we have to limit the amount of cyclists to this challenge and consequently entries will be taken on a first come first served basis so its important if your interested to email your details to us as soon as possible. My email is padraicfrain@gmail.com.
The challenge is likely to take place in the last weekend of May. Numbers are limited so anyone interested so contact us as soon as possible with following details;
Name,Club, Email, Mobile, Member of Cycling Ireland/Triathlon Ireland.
A training programme will be issued to all entrants in the beginning of January. The official launch is most likely to take place on Saturday January 28th.
Many thanks
Padraic Frain
