The countdown has started for the Mayo Youth Tour which takes place in Kiltimagh, County Mayo over the Summer Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday, July 30 to Monday, August 1.
This will be the third edition of the Mayo Youth Tour, which features competitions for cyclists between the ages of 10 and 16.
The 2011 event breaks new ground, with teams from South Africa and Spain’s Basque country competing for the first time. South Africa is expected to field six cyclists, while theBasque contingent will comprise five boys and two girls.
Scotland’s Tom Arnstein, an impressive winner of the category one category last year, returns at the head of an eight-strong Scottish squad.
The Isle of Man, who have supported the Mayo Youth Tour since 2009, plan to return with another full line-up.
The eventwill provide valuable international competition for Ireland’s young hopefuls, including a strong representation from County Mayo, which supplied 30 of the 157 starters in the 2010 Youth Tour,
All four stages will be based in Kiltimagh and the surrounding areas, and full route details will be publicised closer to the event.
Entries are now being received from Ireland and further afield, and competitors are reminded that the closing date for entries is Friday, July 8.
