Kelly Weekend in Mayo

Mister consistency! Sean Kelly was one of the top achievers in professional cycling for over 18 years. 22 Classic wins under his belt, he is statistically the fourth most successful cyclist of all time behind Eddy Merckx (50), Bernard Hinault (29) and Jacques Anquetil (29).

Naturally, his experience in the professional peloton, gives him the platform for anything to do with cycling. The young boy who came form the Carrick Wheelers club in Co. Tipperary led by Dan Grant and Tony Ryan in the late 60's and early 70's went on to grace the world cycling stage for many a long year is one of the most sought after individuals in the world.

Sean always made it his business despite a hectic schedule to accommodate Brendan Quigley with a weekend activity in Partry, Co. Mayo in the month of November. When he is at home in Carrick-on-Suir, he takes the bike for a spin with "the boys" from the now famous town in Tipperary and helps the Mayo Wheelers with coaching weekends. He is a keen supporter of the National Council for the Blind with the group "Blazing Saddles" and has participated in charity cycle all over the globe.

Talking to Brendan Quigley yesterday, he confirmed that Sean will be in Partry for the weekending the 29th and 30th of November. "To be fair, Sean never lets me down. The cycling folk love the weekend and Sean has time for everybody. Truthfully he can do a room with chat and handshakes better than any politician I know.

"The event has been on the go for many a long year, but like everything it has a changeable date because 'himself' is in such demand.

"The cyclists love this part of the world and in between the conversations we get out on the bikes for a steady spin. Sean controls the pace and though there maybe many who aspire to upping the anti in regards to the spin, he gently in his own imitable way, slackens off the pace.
"In the evening we all sit around and discuss the season past and listen to Sean with his exploits during the year. It is great to be in his company and long may it continue here in Partry, Co. Mayo" said Brendan.

The event is being organised by Brendan Quigley in conjunction with the Mayo Wheelers.
