Connacht Youth Development Programme

Dear Club Secretary,

Now that the Spring testing of the FBD Ireland TT2020 Squad is being concluded, you are invited to nominate male youth riders from your clubs that you feel would benefit from testing.

The test protocol is a 10 second sprint test, a 6 second power test and a 3 minute endurance test.

Riders will be advised where their figures lie in relation to anonymous data from the TT2020 Squad members and feedback given to the riders' coaches, or advice on training offered to those without a coach. The cost of the test which will take approximately 50 minutes is €15 payable on the day.

Testing will commence on Saturday 2nd March. Priority will be given to those who have applied to join the TT2020 programme followed by Provincial nominations, followed by riders who self-nominate or are nominated by their clubs. The locations for testing will be decided by the geographical location of the applicants.

Our aim is to do follow-up testing in the Summer.
Testing will be initially limited to Under 16 and Under 14 riders only.
Please send all nominations to providing an email address for the rider.

Should you have any queries about this, please contact me.

      Dear all,
I would like to invite all Connacht clubs to attend the first of a series of Youth and Junior training camps across Connacht for the autumn/ winter of 2012 -2013 across all disciplines.

The camps are part of a strategic drive to raise the standard of Youth and Juniors in Connacht. Plans for a Project 2018 Youth Race series are in place for 2013 and a number of targeted events for Connacht Youth and Junior Team outings are also in the planning stage.

Numbers of Youths and Juniors are at an all time low and now is the time to make a big push to develop the numbers and standard of youth and juniors across all disciplines within Connacht.

We hope that all the clubs in Connacht will support this initiative to make a difference by getting involved in the programme.

Connacht Cycling are introducing a new youth development programme "Project 2018".
This programme is geared towards youth riders between the ages of 10 & 18.
It is being developed and co-ordinated by Olympic cyclist David O Loughlin. Now retired from racing O Loughlin is hoping to utilise his vast knowledge and experience as a rider to inspire the next generation of cyclists to reach their full potential.
The programme will start at a very basic level and eventually lead to riders representing their teams and province at national and international level.

To facilitate its introduction, Connacht Cycling will hold meetings in 3 locations around the province where clubs can learn more about the nature and timescale of events in the programme.
It would be great if at least one representative from every club could attend one of the meetings.
