Connacht MTB League round 5

Monivea Co.Galway was the location for Round 5 of the Connacht Mountain Bike League on Sunday last.
This was the largest turnout of cyclists in this series with over 40 signing on.
The course set by Dara O’Neill, Realt, though flat provided quiet a challenge to all age groups but some great performances were recorded on the day.

Brendan Monaghan Westcoast Wheelers got the edge over Damien Chambers, Covey Wheelers in the under 8 age group.

In the Under 10 age group Morgan Walsh Roberts Realt was again very strong holding off the challenge of Mark Finnerty Western Lakes.

Edel Burke Innishfree held off Lydia Sheridan Covey Wheelers in the Ladies section.

League leader Shane Mulchrone Covey Wheelers had to settle for a good second place with club mate Christopher Kennedy taking a very strong win in under 12.

A large entry in the under 14 age group did not deter Gavin Burke Innishfree, again taking minutes out of second placed Dara Reidy Covey Wheelers.

Under 16 Paul Curly Realt has not had the best of luck in this series having had problems on one occasion with his bike, a fall in an early round and on Sunday, just after the start another fall, but he kept on going and caught William Sheridan Covey Wheelers coming up to the line but did not have the energy to pass in the sprint and William Sheridan took the win.

The Senior race was again a great battle with only seconds separating the top three riders at the line. Padraic Marrey Murphy & Gunn and Donacha O’Brien Westcoast Wheelers were the two front-runners with Steven Franzoni, Mullingar in third, Marrey always had the edge and took the win from O’Brien.
